A Brief History of NWRA
I would like to introduce you to the National Windshield Repair Association
(NWRA), the non-profit trade organization representing the windshield repair industry
and the "typical windshield repair company".
From the founding of windshield repair in the early 1970s until the first
publication of the Windshield Repair Magazine in 1994 there was no organized communication
or representation effort dedicated to the windshield repair community other than
through organizations or publications that were designed to respond to the interests
of the auto glass community. By the 1990s, the ability of the publications
and organizations to serve the windshield repair industry lagged behind the exploding
growth and specialized needs of the windshield repair industry. In September 1994
a group of seven dedicated windshield repairers met in Tucson AZ and founded the
National Windshield Repair Association. The founders are Richard Campfield, Jackie
Newman, Paul Gross, Ed Fields, Bill Batley, David Taylor, Dave Schuh and Steve
Oyer.
The mission of the National Windshield Repair Association is to:
- Promote and develop the legitimacy of windshield repair as the first option
for glass;
- Provide and promote best practices for those engaged in windshield repair;
- Provide the public with benefits of repair;
- Provide education, resources and information about repair;
- Develop and promote qualified, ethical repair practices:
- To serve as an advocate for the windshield repair industry before government,
and other regulatory groups.
The National Windshield Repair Association has developed marketing aids including
a brochure "Your Guide to Windshield Repair", Windshield Savers and
a CD on windshield repair. We hold a national conference every year providing
a forum for the exchange of ideas, presenting industry information, educational
seminars and social interaction for members and invited guests.
NWRA, in conjunction with the National Glass Association (NGA), has developed
a national certification program for auto glass repair technicians. We have written
a manual to use as a study or reference guide and two tests for the program. The
NWRA has also written a "Recommended Practice for the Repair of Windshields"
which is the only known document of its kind. The Recommended Practice is
used worldwide as a reference on windshield repair practices.

National Windshield Repair Association is recognized nationally and worldwide
as a professional source of reliable information on the windshield repair industry.
Interested parties including commercial, government and trade organizations have
come to NWRA for information and consultation. We are the only trade association
devoted solely to the windshield repair industry.
